Perforated limestone slab showing Ur-Nanše, the founder of the First Dynasty of Lagaš. According to the Sumerian King List, he was the first ruler in Lagaš to call himself lugal rather than ensí. The plaque was excavated at the ancient city of Girsu (which was likely the capital of the city-state of Lagaš at the time). The carved decoration on the slab is accompanied by an inscription in Sumerian: "Ur-Nanše, king of Lagaš, son of Gunidu, built the temple of Ningirsu; he built the temple of Nanše; he built Apsubanda."
